It looks like Gentlemen’s Quarterly (GQ) in the UK is changing its style when it comes to subscriptions. Subscribers to the magazine will get the iPad version free.
According to Pocket-lint, Conde Nast is currently negotiating with Apple to arrange this deal. There isn’t an exact date for when this transition will occur, nor when the deal will be sealed, but it is coming.

Apple’s Phil Schiller and Craig Federighi have unveiled some features of Mac OS X Lion today. But first, they started off the keynote with some statistics.
The Mac has 54 million users, and the growth of Mac industry has gone up 28% year over year while the PC industry has shrunk just under 1%. Most people — 73% to be exact — who own a Mac seem to own a Notebook, while the remaining 27% own a desktops.

There are a few Apple technologies —old, new and yet to be released — where I am left wondering what its true function is and Apple’s ultimate goal in developing it. I also have to wonder how each technology fits into Apple’s overall strategy to help them achieve their grand vision. The San Francisco Chronicle (SFGate.com) is not the first and will not be the last, but it is the latest newspaper to release an iPad application.
The iPad app takes newspaper viewing to the next level. The app has a standard newspaper feel to it, yet it utilizes the iPad technology to give users live updates to articles in order to give them the most current information.

There is a rumor swirling about that Apple may announce their Back to School specials at this year’s World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC). WWDC is slated to run from June 6th through June 10th at Moscone West in San Francisco.
As far as my research shows, Apple has been doing their Back to School promotions since 2003, at least according to an article on iLounge from May 30th, 2003. So this announcement would not be unexpected since it now the end of the school year, and immediately following that is the “Back to School” season. This year is no different. (more…)

We reported earlier this month about Walt Disney Animation Studios releasing an open source OS X update server called Reposado. The idea behind the project is to give an open source alternative to update Mac OS X computers without going directly to Apple for each computer.

Back in February Apple told developers that in order to be able to sell subscriptions through the App Store, developers must use Apple’s in-app subscription model by June 30th. Some developers are probably going to wait until the last week of June before submitting their application updates in order to comply with Apple’s rules. There is one company that is not waiting until the last minute to submit their application update: Wired.

Part of Apple’s terms of service for Apple Care is that Apple will not assist users with the removal of malware and viruses. Apple does this for two reasons: the first is perception, and the second is to limit responsibility.
Apple chooses not to allow their support personnel to remove malware and viruses they want to maintain the perception that Macs are not susceptible to infection. Whether the reason for this is better security or market share is up for debate. (more…)
