Wheres My Water? Disney Mobiles Latest Game for iOS

Where’s My Water?

Where’s My Water?, a game developed by Disney Mobile for iOS, is said to be taking aim at the Angry Birds empire. The $0.99 game isn’t just for kids though – it actually gets quite difficult as you go along, making it challenging and enjoyable for adults as well.

The game has a simple storyline that doesn’t require words or audio to understand. When you open the app, you are shown that Swampy lives in a sewer and just wants some clean water to bathe in. Your task is to make sure the clean water gets to Swampy’s shower by digging through the ground, moving gates, and avoiding toxic substances.

Rdio for iOS and OSX, \är dE O\

With thousands of songs in your iTunes, and devices with limited memory, there must be a better way. Enter Rdio, a music subscription service with apps for iOS. The entertainment industry is a fickle thing, with confusing laws and restrictions. Rdio seems to bypass this by giving users unlimited access to their music library for a small monthly fee.

Phoster for iOS: A review

Phoster is an app created by Bucket Labs that lets you take a photo and turn it into a poster. After downloading Phoster, other photo customization apps look like kid’s toys. Sure, taking a photo  and applying filters is a cool way to enhance photos, but nothing compares to being able to completely customize a photo in seconds and make it look like you spent hours on Photoshop. I’ve made a few Phosters myself that I’d love to print on canvas and hang on my wall.

Phoster’s integration with Instagram, Dropbox, Email, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and Tumblr gives anyone and everyone the ability to share their favourite Phosters with friends. Design-wise, Phoster stays true throughout every motion, every interaction, and every detail.

Nike Training Club for iPhone: A review

Anyone who has ever tried getting in shape without a workout buddy, a personal trainer, or a drill sergeant knows how difficult it can be to get motivated. A gym membership can be expensive, not to mention inconvenient. Nike has offered up NTC (Nike Training Club) as a free, ad-free, no excuses solution for newbies and fitness addicts alike.

Not only do you get a simple, sexy way to get in shape, but you get rewards! When you enter the app, you get two figures: your total training time, and what you need to do to hit your next level reward. A celebrity (i.e. Lea Michele, Hope Solo) is featured with their personal workout that you can do. From here you have two options; choose a workout, or do a quick conditioning corps routine.

When you go to choose your workout, you choose your workout by goal. I love this feature. My biggest problem with working out is that I know what I want the end result to be, but have no clue how to get there. Each goal (get lean, get toned, get strong, get focused) then has three levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced). NTC has to be the closest you can get to a personalized workout without splurging for a personal trainer.

Bloons! Now for your iPhone

June 28, 2010

Bloons is a game by Ninja Kiwi that I discovered online…quite a long time ago. I also wasted quite a few hours on this game, so when I saw it in the app store I wasn’t less than enthusiastic. Super fun game.Bloons! Now for your iPhone

In the game, you are a monkey with darts (you can play with a certain amount of darts each level like par on a golf course, or with unlimited…but give yourself a challenge!) and you need to pop a certain amount of balloons. The higher the level, the more obstacles there are – whether it’s wood, rubber, or metal blocks to somehow get through to bust these balloons. There are bonus balloons that will give you an extra dart, set off a bomb of thumbtacks, shoot three darts at a time, shoot lasers, etc.

The graphics are fun, the music is happy, and the game is addicting. At only 99 cents, you seriously need to grab this for your iPhone. Definitely one of my fave apps. How long will it take you to clear all the levels?

Guitar Hero is heroic for your iPhone

June 21, 2010

Though I have never owned a video game console to play the ever popular Guitar Hero on, Guitar Hero is heroic for your iPhoneI have had the pleasure of playing a few times — always so much fun, though I can never seem to play at the higher levels successfully. As most of you know, the video game comes with extra hardware — the guitar — to play it. So, how do you translate this experience into an iPhone app? Well, Activision seems to have it all under control.

The graphics are familiar when you open the app — true to Guitar Hero fashion. You have the option of going backstage, embarking on challenges, checking out the GH community, or going to the store. When hitting play, you can search for tunes by song, artist, rank, or intensity. With just a handful of songs to choose from, I opt for Say It Ain’t So by Weezer. The game is set up with the colours (the amount depending on level of difficulty of course — for me, it’s Medium level, so 4) along the bottom, and you just tap on them as needed, just like you would if you were playing on an XBox. There isn’t much to explain about the app — if you’ve ever played Guitar Hero, you should know what to expect – if you haven’t, then it’s a simple game that will keep you entertained for days.

I *love* this app — at only $2.99, this app saved me from having to buy the console, the game, and the equipment — phew! Definitely a winner app, and something you won’t get bored with. I strongly recommend you spring the three bucks and download it.
