About Corey Woodcox

I'm a full-time web developer, part-time hacker and a closet Apple Fanboy. I switched from Windows about 5 years ago, and I only look back when distant relatives need tech support. If I don't have an Apple product on my person, you can safely assume the world will shortly come to an end.

The best Super Bowl ads are free

The best Super Bowl ads are free

When I first saw this post by Jim Cramer, I thought for sure it was going to reference the Samsung Super Bowl ad I laughed at maniacally during its entire minute of ridiculousness. (A stylus AND a screen that I could mount in my home theater?)

Alas, it drew my attention instead to the presentation of the Super Bowl trophy, pointing out the free advertisement that Apple was getting. My little brother already pointed out to me during the ceremony that there were numerous iPhones drawn recording this timeless, (usually) once-in-a-lifetime event. Behold, real people, witnessing a huge event in their lives, using the iPhone to remember it forever. Cramer says it best: “Nope, there was an ad worthy of Steve Jobs and the company he built.”

There you have it, folks. Try as they might to emulate real-life situations in their ads, usage is king. I watched it a couple of times more, and I counted 12+ iPhones, 6+ of which were white iPhone 4/4S.

How cool is that?

Hat tip to MacRumors because they beat me to this post.

Facebook brings Timeline to iOS, fails to remove the suck

Facebook brings Timeline to iOS, fails to remove the suckFacebook’s opened up their new Timeline profile styling to the whole world, and as usual, no one really likes it. Rather quick on the uptake, this time, it’s also rolled out the new Timeline to iOS within the week, with version 4.1 of Facebook for iOS.

What’s new

Yay! Timeline! You can see a snippet of mine on my iPhone above. What’s odd is that it looks strikingly similar to my new favorite app, Path, who beat them to the release punch by about 3 weeks. If you haven’t installed it on your phone, go do it. Right now. I’ll wait right here.

iTunes Match on iOS, for you international noobs

December 16, 2011

iTunes Match on iOS, for you international noobsJosh just asked me how you get that iTunes Match goodness in your iPhone, so I thought I’d quickly share that with all of you.

Fire up the Settings app and tap Music. You might have to wait a few seconds for it to check your Store account and see if you’re subscribed, but there will be an iTunes Match setting. You’ll get a little warning that isn’t actually so little. It’s going to wipe out all of the music on your device. Yeah, don’t do this in an airport or anything. Make sure the “Show all music” setting is on too, so you can see everything and download it.

You can download the tracks manually, or as you stream a song. iTunes Match will save the song in your library so you can listen offline later.

iTunes Match goes live internationally, for real this time

iTunes Match goes live internationally, for real this timeIrishmen, Canucks, Mexicanos and UKers (read: Brits) alike are now privileged to enjoy the wonder that is iTunes Match. My sources indicate that one Canadian has indeed subscribed, bringing the grand total up to, well, at least one. I’d propose a toast, but I’m sure the Irish have already taken care of that at least three times in the six minutes since this story broke.

Okay, all nationality jokes aside, we’ve personally confirmed that it works in Canada, and MacRumors is reporting that it is available in at least Ireland, Mexico and the whole of the UK. Let us know if you’re somewhere else and it’s working for you, and we’ll keep you up to date.

Update: Josh, who’s in Canada, had to click on the iTunes Store icon in the sidebar, then select iTunes Match in the far right sidebar on the iTunes Store page. It should have a blue “New” icon beside it, right under the quick links section. Once that was clicked, iTunes Match started working its magic.

Apple TV 3: A Wishlist

Oh Apple, if only we knew the things going on behind your ever so tightly closed doors, we might not be so anxious about what lies in store for us next year. One thing I’m pretty sure about, Apple TV is going to see SOME sort of update in the coming months. I’m not on the “Build a whole new TV” bandwagon just yet, so here are a few features I’d like to see in Apple TV 3. Tim, you can start taking notes now.

Jawbone UP: Worth the money — a review

Jawbone UP: Worth the money — a reviewThe Jawbone UP is a slick little piece of sexy. It’s a wristband that pairs up with an iPhone app to track your daily activities and help you to live a healthier life. Regularly $100, for Black Friday they were $78 at the Apple Store, a deal I just couldn’t pass up. A little self-checkout magic while waiting for the Genius Bar, and boom, time to start playing. VID: Stuck in the Middle with Siri

November 15, 2011

VID: Stuck in the Middle with SiriCollege Humor has taken the practical applications of Siri and put them in video form, showing us all what we really wish Siri was like. Check out the video here, but I’ll warn you, you’ll probably want headphones if you’re at work or the youngsters are around, it’s not exactly PG with the language. That said, it’s pretty hilarious, in a very… masochistic sort of way.

However, this video also addresses the very real fact I pointed out to Tim Cook in an email just the other day, to which he has yet to respond. Details after the jump.
