Foxconn Decides To Sell Its Own TVs By Partnering With 7-Eleven

Foxconn has teamed up with… wait, what? Sorry. Foxconn and 7-Eleven have teamed up to begin selling their very own televisions to consumers in Taiwan. According to reports in the Wall Street Journal, the company has managed to sell 10,000 “large” televisions since late June.

Buyers of the 7-Eleven-branded TVs can place orders on the 7-Eleven website or at more than 4800 outlets in Taiwan. The 40-inch TV sells for 12,888 New Taiwan dollars ($430), the 60-inch for NT$39,900 ($1,333) and the 70-inch for NT$69,900 ($2,336). The TVs are preloaded with links to the 7-Eleven online store and Facebook page.

It’s not all that surprising that a company who manufactures TVs and other consumer electronic devices for its partners would decide to go at it alone. Why would you rely on other’s orders to make a dollar when you have the tools and skills to make your own? Word on the street has it that Hon Hai (Foxconn) is trying to convince Sharp that it could actually turn around the company. Months ago Foxconn attempted to buy a sliver of Sharp but the negotiations fell through.
