Gmail Users Are Getting “Scroogled” By New Gmail Ads, Says Microsoft

Scroogled. This is the term that Microsoft is throwing around again when it comes to how Google is treating its users with Gmail’s new ads that are presented in the form of emails.

Microsoft has updated its Scroogled.com site to focus on Google’s new advertising method, comparing Google’s methods to how Microsoft treats it own users on Outlook. The page links and highlights a number of articles that criticize Google’s techniques, and urges people to warn their friends on Twitter and Facebook by using the hashtag #scroogled.

Google’s new email advertising has sponsored ads show up in Gmail’s new “promotions” section. The ad emails are clearly labeled as ads and are in a different color then traditional emails.

Users can also visit old parts of Scroogled that discuss how Google scroogles users in regards to its app store and shopping.
