Microsoft’s SkyDrive iOS application has been updated to version 3.0. This update brings a plethora of new features, the most notable being iPhone 5 support and optimization for the iPad mini.
The app’s icons and overall design have been tweaked, giving the app a better look and feel. Users can finally download full resolution photos with SkyDrive 3.0 and can control file sizes of photo uploads and downloads. In terms of under-the-hood changes, many bug fixes and performance improvements have been made
This SkyDrive update has been delayed for quite some time due to disputes between Apple and Microsoft. Microsoft wasn’t pleased with Apple’s 70/30 App Store cut on in-app purchases, so Apple refused to let the updated SkyDrive app into the App Store. With this latest update, Microsoft seems to have given up on its argument, removing the ability to purchase SkyDrive premium subscriptions via the iOS app. iOS users will now have to purchase premium SkyDrive subscriptions via Safari.
SkyDrive is Microsoft’s cloud storage service and a competitor to Amazon Cloud Drive, Google Drive and Dropbox. Free accounts come with a nice 7GB of storage that can be accessed via the web, mobile, or desktop app.
