Review: Choice Case Mighty & Frost Back Cases

Choice Case

You just got a new iPhone 5 for Christmas, but you need a case to keep it free of cracks, dents and other damage. While you could go to your local Apple Store or Best Buy and drop $30 for a case, wouldn’t it be nice to spend a lot less, for a lot more case? That’s where Choice Case comes in. Choice Case is a new case company offering a whole line of cases for the iPhone 5. Choice Case’s line of cases is pretty extensive and all cases are offered at very low prices.

I was given the opportunity to test both Choice Case’s Mighty and Frost Back cases for my iPhone 5. After the break, I’ve written up my thoughts on both of the cases which I’ve been testing over the past two weeks. Even though these cases were sent to me for review free of charge, all opinions are my own.

Mighty

Mighty

The Mighty is a very unique case when it comes to both design and functionality. At first glance, you’ll notice that the Mighty features a plastic and TPU construction. The case is two-toned in color, with the the plastic trim of the case featuring one color while the TPU is another complementary color. Currently, the Mighty is offered in three color combinations: blue with white trim, black with white trim, and black with red trim. Each of these color combinations look unique and are sure to make your iPhone 5 stand out from the crowd.

As far as functionality goes, the Mighty is very functional with a built-in kickstand. This kickstand can be used to prop your iPhone up for video viewing, though I like to use it when browsing the web on my iPhone in landscape mode. Unfortunately for me, after a couple weeks of heavy usage, the Mighty’s stand eventually popped out on me. However, after a bit of fiddling with the case, I was able to pop the stand back in and it worked just fine.

Now for the most important part of the case: protection. During my testing, I accidentally dropped my iPhone from waist height onto a hardwood floor. My iPhone walked away from the accident without a dent, scratch or crack thanks to the Mighty. The case also protected my iPhone from daily scratching as it protects the back and sides of the phone.

The only major issue I have with Mighty is the fact that it adds a bit of bulk to your iPhone. However, the added bulk is needed to provide stellar protection from drops and scratches to your device. Because of this, I can recommend the Choice Case Mighty to anyone looking for a ton of protection for their new iPhone. As of now, the Mighty only costs $8, making it a total steal for what you get. You can purchase the Mighty via Choice Case’s website.

Frost Back

Frost Back

If minimal protection is more your thing, the Choice Case Frost Back case is definitely something for you to consider. Unlike the Mighty, the Frost Back features a minimal design with a small TPU bumper around the edges of the device and a sheet of “frosted” plastic covering the back. Because of this, the back of your iPhone is somewhat visible but still protected from scratching. The TPU bumper part of the Frost Back case is available in green, black, light blue and light pink.

As far as protection goes, the Frost Back isn’t for those who often drop their iPhones. The case is pretty thin, which means that it won’t absorb as much shock as I would like it to. However, the case will protect your iPhone from everyday scratching.

While I’m not personally a huge fan of the Frost Back case from Choice Case, I think people who rarely drop their devices will like it a lot more than I do. The design is nice, but if you’re clumsy with your iPhone, you’re better off looking elsewhere. As of now, the Frost Back case is a mere $7 via Choice Case’s website. Once again, this case is a total steal if you’re into minimal protection and maximum style.
