iPad Mini More Popular In China Than First Thought

The iPad mini launched in China earlier in December but had little turnout for its debut, though not for lack of interest in Apple’s newest device. Demand for the iPad mini is reportedly just as high in China as in any other market.

According to Brian White, a Topeka analyst, his checks in Hong Kong and China reveal “insatiable” demand for the iPad mini. Just about every model of the iPad mini sold out in Hong Kong and China last week and sources at Apple’s three retail stores in Hong Kong and eight in China reported stock-outs or significantly low supply.

White said:

“Similar to Hong Kong, we are being told by contacts in China that the iPad mini is already more popular than the fourth-generation iPad. Prior to the China launch, we indicated that the iPad mini would be the ‘next big thing in China,’ and we believe this phenomenon is starting to develop. In our view, the smaller form factor and lower price point will allow Apple to sell the iPad mini in more meaningful volumes versus the regular-size iPad.”

It looks like the iPad mini is doing better in China than we initially thought. Great news for Apple.
