People get really rabid when we mention how iOS 6 feels stale and dated, and for the most part there’s a lot of articulate reasoning behind their discourse. That said, I can’t help but find myself wondering how the operating system could be better, and ways that Apple could iterate on an already successful platform. It’s one of the reasons why I love checking out concepts so much. When a new multi-task tray (or app switcher) concept popped up online earlier this year it really hammered home the fact that some things need revisiting in iOS.
Sentry_NC’s concept went gangbusters online and provided a new look and feel to Apple’s app switching functionality in iOS. The concept centered on a card-style interface that would provide a visual representation of the applications’ current running states, and was easily the best solution to the app switching problem that I’ve ever seen. The concept also riffed on the idea of providing more functionality to an area that kind of does nothing more than act like a glorified ?+TAB for your iPhone or iPad.
Turns out the jailbreak community loved the idea so much that it took up the challenge and began working on a tweak to make the idea a reality. Jack Willis and JamieD360put in the work and plan on releasing the tweak in the near future; Auxo will be available in the Cydia store in a couple of days.
Honestly, there are very few things about jailbreaking that would convince me to jailbreak my phone and customize it. This, however, is one of them. More than any other tweak before it, Auxo has me seriously considering a jailbreak.
Of course, Jeff Benjamin, pretty much the best jailbreak video maker on the web, put together an amazing video (above) of the tweak. We recommend heading over to iDownloadblog to check out his thoughts in full.
