Twitter has just announced that they will be bringing Instagram-like photo filters to both Twitter for iPhone and Twitter for Android. Twitter will bring a total of eight filters to their mobile applications as well as the ability to enhance and crop photos within the app. The company has announced that it has partnered with the New York-based startup Aviary to provide the filters. Starting today, you’ll be able to edit and refine your photos, right from Twitter. The latest versions of Twitter for iPhone and Twitter for Android introduce a few new ways to enhance the images you tweet. We’re grateful to our partner, Aviary, for powering our filters and effects.
- Filters. Apply one of eight filters, ranging from black & white to vintage, to add a new look and feel to your photos.
- Take a bird’s-eye view. See how each filter would affect your photo in a single grid view, or swipe through looks to compare your options.
- Frame the action. Crop and pinch to zoom in order to focus attention.
- Auto-enhance. Make your photos pop with balanced light and colors by tapping the wand.”
This update comes just a day after Facebook-owned Instagram turned off all photo previews on Twitter. This move could mark the start of a war of sorts between both Facebook and Twitter as they race for the hearts of vintage photo enthusiasts across the web.

In a move that result in more competition in an already highly competitive market, sources close to the company say that Google is planning to launch a streaming music service at its developer-focused I/O event this week. Rumor has it that the company has the top 3 music labels onboard, including Warner Music Group, Universal Music, and Sony. Google would already face competition from established music streaming services like Rdio, Spotify, Deezer, MOG, and Pandora. Google CEO Larry Page took to Google+ today, where he publicly revealed for the first time that he has been suffering from vocal cord paralysis for the past 14 years. Page has written an extensive post on his Google+ page discussing the history of his condition as well as reassuring people (and shareholders) that it is nothing to be overly concerned about. Netflix has announced a change to its API that will likely make a number of developers less than happy. The company has chosen to stop sharing its content expiry dates within the Netflix API, removing the ability for site and app developers to easily see what date TV shows and movies will be removed from the site. Websites like instantwatcher.com used to use this information provided by Netflix’s API to easily sort movies and shows by what date they were expiring. This way, people could look at what movies were expiring soon so they could watch ones they were interested
One of BlackBerry’s biggest selling points is headed to iOS and Android this summer. BlackBerry announced today that its popular BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) service will finally be opening up to non-BlackBerry devices, a move that has been rumored for some time. Microsoft is pulling out all the stops to bring more people over to its new Outlook.com webmail service. It started by getting rid of Hotmail and bringing millions of users over to the service and now it has integrated Google Talk contacts into Outlook.com’s messenger service to entice Gmail users to switch.
