Apple’s Newest iMac Now Available To Order Online

Apples Newest iMac Now Available To Order OnlineFollowing its release in Apple retail stores, the new iMac is now available for order through the Online Apple Store. It’s available in two versions: the smaller 21.5-inch version and the 27-inch version. The smaller iMac is seeing shorter shipping estimates, while the bigger version is set to ship later in December.

The iMac is already available in several other online stores, including Australia, Canada, and select European countries. The 21.5-inch model is ready to ship in one to three days, but increases to seven to ten days with build-to-order options. The 27-inch iMac is expected to ship in two to three weeks, and configuring this version doesn’t affect the shipping date estimate.

The cheapest option is $1,299 for a non-configured 21.5-inch unit with a 2.7GHz Intel Core i5 processor and goes above $4,300 for the best of the 27-inch models.

Apple said on Tuesday that the iMac would go on sale this Friday, just barely making its own deadline for release. Tim Cook also said there would be a significant shortage supply, but didn’t elaborate beyond that about what was causing the delay.

The newly designed iMac is the thinnest yet, only 5 millimetres thick at the edge and it also features a reengineered display, which Apple says will reduce reflections by 75 percent. It’s also much faster thanks to the new quad-core Intel silicon and NVIDIA GeForce graphics processor. The Fusion Drive is also new, which combines the performance of solid-state media with the capacity and affordability of a hard drive. The new iMac also features 128GB of flash memory with a standard hard drive for single storage volume that intelligently manages frequently-used files and programs to optimize performance.
