iOS 6.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak Solution Almost Here? Maybe? Hopefully?

Ever since I started here at Macgasm, I’ve been talking about the possible advent of an iOS 6.0.1 untethered jailbreak solution. It’s becoming a weekend tradition. As you might have guessed, there’s going to be more of it today.

According to App Advice, it’s already possible to jailbreak iOS 6.0.1. Unfortunately, the solution isn’t perfect. Not only is it incapable of supporting new iDevices, the solution is also a tethered soution.

Still, as always, there’s hope. Jailbreak hacker Joshua Hill, known as @posixninja, recently divulged that he had uncovered a BootROM exploit for Apple’s A5, A5X, A6 and A6X — it’s not exactly an indication we’ll have a solution within the next week. Nonetheless, as stated in a subsequent tweet, “It’s at least a starting point for finding a new bootrom exploit, and makes userland jailbreaks 1000% easier.”

Apple’s industrious attempts at protecting their operating system have certainly paid off. Currently, no jailbroken solution has been declared for the iPhone 5 as of yet, something that has confounded both hackers and consumers alike. Nonetheless, the news from Mr. Hill is a positive one indeed. With luck, we’ll be able to talk about where to get an untethered jailbreak solution next week.
