Starbucks Rolls Out In-Store Wireless Smartphone Charging In Boston

Starbucks is treating the tech-savvy of Boston to a little something extra special with their morning lattes. The coffee giant is offering a “limited time in store trial for wireless charging” in 17 of their locations in the area.

Customers are coming into our stores every day with mobile devices, and putting them down on the table. If they could be charging their device at the same time, then we’ve connected with that customer and met their need, maybe even before they realized they had a need for wireless charging. – Adam Brotman, Starbucks Chief Digital Officer

Starbucks is building Duracell Powermat technology into some of the tabletops, which allows your iPhone or Samsung Galaxy to soak up electricity through inductive charging. This is all in an effort to make customers feel welcome and encourage them to stay as long as they want to.

If you’re in the area, check out the Starbucks at One Financial Center, 125 Summer Street and 101 Federal Street and let us know what you think!
