Apple No Longer Thinks Maps Is The Most Powerful Mapping App

After iOS 6’s Maps caused some backlash among the Apple community, Apple dropped their claim that iOS 6 Maps is the “most powerful mapping service ever”. If you checked Apple’s iOS 6 Maps website yesterday, you would’ve seen the following short description:

Designed by Apple from the ground up, Maps gives you turn-by-turn spoken directions, interactive 3D views, and the stunning Flyover feature. All of which may just make this app the most beautiful, powerful mapping service ever.

If you check the site today, however, you’ll see a slightly modified claim with part of the last sentence removed. We’ve embedded the new claim below:

Designed by Apple from the ground up, Maps gives you turn-by-turn spoken directions, interactive 3D views, and the stunning Flyover feature. All in a beautiful vector-based interface that scales and zooms with ease.

So, why was Apple’s overhyped claim removed? Simple, it just isn’t the best thing out there and Apple acknowledges it. Last week Tim Cook wrote a letter to the Apple community telling them to use a different mapping application like Waze or Bing until Apple gets their stuff straight. Apple did the right thing by swallowing its pride and removing the overhyped claim from the site.
