As always, before a big release Apple shuts down the online Apple Store to update it and this time is no different. Earlier this morning, the Apple Store went down with a notice saying, “We’ll be back,” obviously in preparation for the iPhone 5 that will be announced at today’s keynote, alongside a refreshed and updated lineup of iPods.
In anticipation of the new iPhone release, rumors have been circling like vultures. The most important information to come of these is that it will have a larger 4-inch display, compared to the current 3.5-inch display, with a body about the same width just longer. The iPhone 5 is also expected to include LTE connectivity, and there has been speculation and controversy on whether or not it will have NFC technology.
We are expecting a big upgrade for the iPod touch lineup, which is expected to feature a longer screen, like the iPhone 5, GPS capabilities, camera improvements, new colors, and more. A refreshed lineup of iPod nanos and iPod shuffles are also reportedly on the way.
The new iPhone 5 and iPod lineup are expected to have a 9-pin dock connector, as opposed to the current 30-pin dock connector. The iDevices will likely come with some new accessories as well, including new earphones, called “Earpods,” and something called a “Loop,” as well as the dock connector called “Lightning.”
