Apple To Begin iPhone 5 Pre-orders On Friday, September 14?
Now that the date for the iPhone 5 launch is set in stone (it’s tomorrow in case you haven’t heard), Apple fans have turned their attention to when they can actually get their hands on the new device. Well, while it’s assumed that the iPhone 5 will be available on September 21, the latest rumors are pointing towards September 14, just two days after tomorrow’s media event, as the day that Apple will begin pre-orders.
Over the years, Apple’s policies for pre-ordering iOS devices have varied. The iPhone 4S was scheduled for a 12:01 AM Pacific Time launch on the Friday following the media event. Last week, iMore reported that pre-orders were to begin on the same day as the media event on September 12, with availability just nine days later.
Now, MacRumors is reporting that pre-orders won’t start tomorrow, but may instead begin on Friday morning, similar to the iPhone 4S last year. Apparently, Apple’s online sales support teams are increasing their staffing levels significantly starting at 6:00 AM Eastern Time on Friday.
It’s not clear if pre-orders would begin right at the 6:00 AM mark, however, or if they would just start shortly after, but the increased staffing levels certainly point towards Friday being the day for pre-ordering the iPhone 5. So if you can’t wait until September 21, mark your calendar for Friday and you just might be able to pre-order yourself a brand spanking new iPhone.
