Kindle App For Mac Gets Update, Adds Support For Gestures, Kindle Format 8, More

Just last week Amazon announced the company’s new Kindle e-reader and tablet line-up. Today, Amazon has released a new update for the Kindle Mac App, which adds support for Lion and Mountain Lion, gestures and support for reading books published in Amazon’s Kindle 8 format, and other improvements and bug fixes.

Mac owners running Mac OS X 10.7 or later can now take advantage of Lion gestures by swiping and panning through books. This makes it easier to turn pages and have a better overall reading experience on your Mac.

Now with support for Amazon’s Kindle Format 8, the Kindle Mac app features more than 150 new formatting capabilities, providing richer formatting. This includes fixed layouts, nested tables, sidebars, and SVG graphics.

Amazon has also improved support for larger libraries with a number of bug fixes and performance improvements. With this update, there is also better performance for books that have a lot of notes and highlighting in them.

With Amazon planning to launch its Kindle e-readers in Japan, although it’s not clear when, the company is gearing up by adding Japanese support in the Mac app ahead of a possible launch.

The Kindle Mac App is now available on the Mac App Store for free so be sure to get it so you can get the most out of your reading experience on your Mac by updating the application.
