T-Mobile Reportedly Begins Training To Sell “Against The iPhone”

In what is thought to be a leaked internal memo discovered on Monday, U.S. wireless carrier T-Mobile is preparing retail staff for the upcoming iPhone 5 release. But unlike other carriers who are trying to get rid of current iPhones to make room for the new one, T-Mobile is training staff to sell “against the iPhone” on the expected September 21st release date.

While other carriers like AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and Sprint are trying to clear out as many iPhone 4 and 4Ss as possible before the iPhone 5 arrives, T-Mobile can’t join in the fun. T-Mobile won’t be getting the iPhone 5 as the phone doesn’t have an LTE network to support the next-generation iPhone’s 4G connectivity. Once again, T-Mobile will miss out on possibly the biggest smartphone launch yet, but the company isn’t going to sit by and do nothing.

The memo first appeared an unofficial T-Mobile blog, TmoNews. In the memo, T-Mobile notes that staff will receive training materials for “selling against the iPhone” and an updated micro-SIM kit that is compatible with the iPhone 4 and 4S, allowing customers to bring in unlocked iPhones to the T-Mobile network.

Something tells me T-Mobile’s attempts to sell “against the iPhone” aren’t going to do much with so many people eagerly awaiting the next-generation iPhone.
