Amazon Instant Video App For iPad Now Available In App Store

Yesterday it was announced that Apple had quietly added the Hulu Plus channel to the Apple TV. Today, the Amazon Instant Video app for iPad has been released in the App Store. This app brings more competition for Apple with another media option for buying and renting movies and TV shows.

Amazon’s Instant Video app will stream Prime content for free (or with the $79/yearly Amazon Prime membership the first month is free) and also has the ability to download content for offline viewing. A Season Pass is also available for TV shows that are available the morning after it airs on TV. Functions of the app include the ability to resume watching where you left off watching from your Kindle Fire, PS3, PC, Mac, or other models of connected TVs and Blu-ray players with Amazon Whispersync.

Amazon’s video library includes 120,000 movie and television titles, which can be rented or purchased. Amazon Prime members can use their membership to watch thousands of videos at no additional charge.

This is the second time that Amazon has expanded digital content to support iOS devices, following a June launch of the iOS version of its Amazon Cloud Player, which allows local and streaming support for Amazon music libraries to the iPhone.
