New Mac Ads Featured During Olympic Opening Ceremony

Over the weekend, Apple released three new Mac ads during the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Olympic Games in London. These ads are different than previous commercials, having an Apple Genius in different situations describing Mac features, and helping people who have no idea what they’re doing.

The classic “Get a Mac” campaign with John Hodgman and Justin Long was the last time Apple used TV advertising to promote Macs. This time Apple is using unknown actors in funny and, sometimes, ridiculous situations to show off OS X and software features.

The first commercial, “Mayday,” has a flight attendant asking if there is an Apple Genius onboard (don’t worry, there was) who then goes on to help another passenger with iMovie. The second, “Basically,” shows an Apple Genius explaining to someone that the Mac knock-off he just bought isn’t a Mac at all. The third commercial, “Labor Day,” has the same Apple Genius explaining how to make iPhoto albums and books to a father-to-be while his wife is in labor.

All three ads can be seen on the Apple YouTube channel.
