Amazing Alex Already No. 1 Paid iPhone App, Fastest Climb To No.1 App Spot Ever

Well that didn’t take long. Rovio Entertainment’s first app in more than two years that hasn’t featured birds, Amazing Alex, reached the number one spot in the App Store in just one day.

Rovio, the maker of Angry Birds, is estimated by analysts to be worth $6 billion to $9 billion. Rovio’s newest game, Amazing Alex, is a physics-based game that features challenges that Alex has to solve. The success of Amazing Alex has broken some sort of record as it’s the fastest app to have hit the number one spot in America without help from being a sequel, a movie tie-in or an extension of an existing brand, according to analyst Tero Kuittinen.

Rovio was found in 2003 and really hit its stride in 2009 with the release of the original Angry Birds and has since focused on creating sequels of the popular game app. Rovio has remained on the top of the charts with more than a billion downloads. At the end of 2011 it had 200 million monthly users, compared to Zynga’s 240 million.

Last year alone Rovio raised $42 million from venture capital firms like Accell Partners, which used to back Facebook and Baidu, and Skype founder Niklas Zennstroem’s venture capital firm, Atomico Ventures.

I guess Rovio isn’t just silly pigs and angry, flying birds. Head over to iTunes to check out Rovio’s newest game app, Amazing Alex.
