In the past decade, much has been written about distraction-free writing environments. Frankly, it’s something I can get behind as a writer. Stop fiddling with the knobs, fonts, margins, kerning, and doohickies, and just write, dammit. For the easily distracted among us, everything except the canvas and written text needs to go away so they can focus. No Twitter, Facebook, email, or color palettes to futz with. Enter WriteRoom.
WriteRoom really has one goal: make it easier for writers to write. Yes, you can customize the background color and the font color, but you really shouldn’t be focusing on a checklist of features. Think of WriteRoom as a way to force yourself into focusing exclusively on writing — no distractions. This is as close to pencil and paper or a typewriter as you can get on a modern computer. Take away all of the flashing notifications and bouncing icons, and you just might be able to get some friggin’ work done.
For today only, WriteRoom is available on the Mac App Store for only $1.99 USD. Isn’t a measly two bucks worth all of the productivity you’ll gain? If you have ADD tendencies and you really want to be more effective, there hasn’t been a better time than now to jump in the distraction-free pool headfirst.Follow @macgasm
