Time Names Tim Cook One Of The World’s Most Influential People
Time Magazine has once again named its picks for the 100 most influential people in the world and, not unexpectedly, Apple CEO Tim Cook finds himself on it. The affable Cook, who shouldered the onerous job of taking over from a man who might be the most iconic CEO in history, does not yet have even a year behind him as Apple’s head guy but is already beginning to leave his signature on the company’s identity. One might call it a “kinder, gentler” era, but Cook’s also kept Apple’s nose up by bringing in record profits under his watch. Cynics may say it’s no more than leftover momentum from the Steve Jobs era, but it only takes one small error in steering to put a fast-moving car in the ditch.
Highly ethical and always thoughtful, he projects calmness but can be tough as nails when necessary. Like the great conductor George Szell, Cook knows that his commitment to excellence is inseparable from the incredible ensemble he leads at Apple. Szell was noted for saying, “We begin where others leave off.”
We’re big Tim Cook fans here at Macgasm (and don’t assume that was a given; we were far from sure when he originally stepped up), but we’d be remiss if all the glowing praise in the Time article seems unbiased, considering it was penned by Al Gore, who currently serves on the Apple board of directors.
