Introducing The Conceptual MacBook Touch
A concept video has popped up that revists the idea of merging a touch screen to a MacBook. And, while the concept is pretty nifty in and of itself, it also reaffirms the idea that a touch screen laptop just wouldn’t work. The pitch of the screen would make for an awfully tiring experience for anyone looking to use the touch screen for longer than twenty seconds a day.
We’ve done tons of user testing on this, and it turns out it doesn’t work. Touch surfaces don’t want to be vertical. It gives great demo but after a short period of time, you start to fatigue and after an extended period of time, your arm wants to fall off. it doesn’t work, it’s ergonomically terrible. Touch surfaces want to be horizontal, hence pads.
Despite claims out of the Apple camp that people just don’t want to have touchscreen enabled laptops, many still bizarrely long for a day when Apple pulls out a MacBook Touch as a “one more thing” during a keynote. Are you one of those people? If you are, we’d like to have a word with you.
