Amazon updates Kindle app for Retina goodness

Amazon has rolled out an update to its Kindle application today, bringing the application sweet iPad Retina display compatibilities. It may not sound like much on the surface, but what it results in is insanely crisp text in all of your kindle books.

Amazon has also updated the layout of the library, making it easier to toggle between your cloud view, and on device view for your purchases.

While we’re on the topic of new Retina capable apps for the new iPad, you may want to take a moment and consider storage space availabilty if you’re planning on buying a new iPad tomorrow. Rumor has it that some of these Retina enabled apps, and more specificially Retina games, can eat up storage space pretty quickly.

Version 2.7 of the Amazon Kindle application weighed in at 10.9 MB before the update, and version 3.0 is 18.3 MB. To be fair, the increase may not entirely have to do with new Retina graphics, but the app has almost doubled in size between versions. While 7.9 MB may not be something to get alarmed about, games weighing in at 1+ GB could easily balloon to 2 GB. If you can afford it, you may want to consider the version above your last one at this point.
