Upgrading to iOS 5.1 on AT&T iPhones automatically adds 4G … JUST KIDDING

If you’ve got an iPhone 4S and you’re on the AT&T network, you might get a chuckle or two when you upgrade to iOS 5.1. As soon as the update completes, you’ll notice that your “3G” symbol up in the top left corner of your screen has mysteriously morphed into a 4G indicator.

Wait, what?

Before you start barfing rainbows and declaring it a miracle, it’s probably good for you to know that your network speed hasn’t and won’t change as a result of this nifty little update. Your phone does NOT have 4G capabilities. For whatever reason, AT&T thought it would be a good idea to troll its users with a big fat lie staring them in the face every time they look at their iPhone’s screen.

I think I’ve met my quota of destroying dreams for the day. Enjoy your magical 4G network, AT&T users.
