Super Crate Box, more like super f*#%&’n addicting

Have you heard of Super Crate Box? If the answer is no, you need to head to the App Store right this second and take a look at it. It’s only a dollar, and it just may be one of the simplest and best games of 2012. I know, I know, we’re only 12 days into 2012, but this game has already climbed my personal game rating system and passed Jet Pack Joyride, Monsters Ate My Condo, and Angry Birds as one of the best games I’ve played on my iPhone, full-stop.

The game, an easy mashup between a Mario Bros. mini game, Donkey Kong, and Lode Runner, has completely captivated my mind and scratched my A.D.D itch. The concept is simple. Jump from platform to platform, collecting boxes while avoiding bad-guys. Sure, it sounds like almost every other platformer on the market, but this one keeps you coming back for more. It’s a real challenge.

The goal in Super Crate Box isn’t to kill bad guys. Instead, it’s to collect as many boxes as you can while staying alive. The twist is that every time you collect a box, your weapon changes. You don’t get to toggle weapons; you’re stuck with what the game gives you, making it a real challenge to avoid those bad guys. One second you’re blowing up loads of evil minions with a rocket launcher, and a split second later, when the enemy is charging your position, you’re stuck with a land-mine.

I have a natural tendency to quit a game when I get frustrated, but Super Crate Box is great at making you feel like you’re one jump away from beating your previous high score. I’ve been known to curse while playing video games, but this game has me cursing more frequently than most, if that’s even possible.

I don’t want to ruin this for you, and I don’t want to do a full-blown review on the game just yet, but I certainly wanted to pass along the game to you guys. It’s a dollar very well spent. I can’t put it down. That rarely happens for me. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
