Apple replacing some 1st gen iPod nanos with a new 6th gen iPod nano

December 20, 2011

Mac News

I was reading through my RSS feeds today and saw an AppleInsider article that said some people who had submitted their first generation iPod nano to Apple for their Replacement Program were receiving 6th generation iPod nanos. I submitted mine to Apple in early November and hadn’t thought much about it. Just looked at my shipping confirmation email from them a few days ago and it contains the serial number for my replacement unit. Looked up the serial number and YESSSSS, mama is getting a new iPod Nano!

If you have a first generation iPod nano it’s probably worth a look to see if it qualifies for the Replacement Program. If you did submit your nano, did you get your replacement yet? Was it the current generation iPod nano or a first generation? Let us know in the comments!

hi there. ive just learned about this replacement thing and im decided to send my application tomorrow. i hope they still accept it though.

my only problem is that i live in the philippines, is my application still possible? coz the country choices doesnt have philippines in it :(

i got mine today! its the 6th gen ipod nano silver, but it doesn't come in retail packaging (only the ipod itself) NO earphones or sync cable.

Got my 6G Nano yesterday! Woo-hoo!

They sent me a 6th gen Nano as a replacement.

I also received the 6th generation and am kind of disappointed. This isn't a nano in my book, it's a glorified shuffle and I don't like it at all. It doesn't charge in my iHome dock either. I should be happy because it's technically newer and better but I loved my original nano.

Are you on Twitter? I'm pretty positive if you threw it out there that you had a new 6th gen iPod Nano and wanted to exchange it for an older Nano you would get some takers. Hit me up @macfusiongirl and I'll see if I can help you.

Thanks for offering to help, Marilyn. My husband decided to buy me a 4th generation Nano on eBay this afternoon. I'll keep the 6th generation as a back up.

I was just notified my replacement has shipped. It's a silver 6th generation. And it has 8GB (the minimum for a 6th gen) versus my original 2GB. Lucky me.

I got the replacement ipod (6th gen) and it's cool, but I have to update my itunes to the newest version which will not update unless I update my whole mac os, which I guess I have to buy?? Not sure what to do now.

I would call Apple and tell them they sent you an iPod that is not compatible with your Mac. See what they have to offer.

I live in Malaysia and I am still waiting for my replacement. Hope I get the 6th gen ones.

That's the kind of story that makes us Apple fans all warm and fuzzy inside.

I'm in Australia and sent mine in today, no need to wait for packages as you just have to take it to an Australia Post and they'll do the packaging for you. Let's hope Australia has the same luck as America has with the sixth gens.

I'm from aus & sent mine nov 12th, just got confrimation today and looks like its a 6th gen!!

Mine will be a 6th gen also. Pretty awesome.

Sent mine in mid-Nov and just received shipping email from Apple a few mins ago, looked up serial, and will be getting the new 6th gen.

How do you like them Apples?

All smiles here...

I sent my nano in today.  I filed my request on Nov. 16 and received the packaging materials on yesterday.  I'm hoping they will be still handing out current generation nanos when it's time to ship one back to me.

I requested my materials the same day as you and just got them yesterday also. To send them in we have to take it to a UPS store?

I actually dropped my box off at one of those little shipping centers that does Fedex, UPS and USPS.

I dropped mine off to a UPS store but that's because I don't live far from one.  I agree with Marilyn though that any location that does UPS shipping should be fine.
