If you’ve been living outside of the US, Canada, and the other “lucky” countries that got the iPhone 4S already, we have good news and bad news: The good news is that you can probably get your own iPhone 4S today, but the bad is that you may have to pay more than we do here in the colonies. And I mean a lot more.
On Friday, the iPhone 4S dropped in Bahrain, Brazil, Chile, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Morocco, Peru, the Philippines, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam. Pretty good news for those who have been waiting with baited breath, but the price tag can be pretty scary, according to Macrumors.
As we noted in our earlier report, pricing in Brazil is indeed very high due to the import duties imposed on such devices there, one major reason why Apple and Foxconn are working on ramping up production of iOS devices in the country. Pricing for the iPhone 4S through Apple’s Brazilian online store starts at the equivalent of $1410 for the 16 GB model and moves up to $1628 for the 32 GB model and $1845 for the 64 GB model.
Pricing in Russia is nothing to laugh at, either: Prices there range from $1131 to $1350. Other countries are not quite so different from U.S. pricing, with Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates clocking in at $700/$800/$900 in those markets.

fair points indeed. thanks for the educational contribution regarding the Apple market outside the US. living in the states, i take a great number of things for granted (least of all my Apple offerings).
thanks for reading.

Likeunfortunately, most of that is related to international trade and copyright issues outside of Apple's control. i'm sure Apple would love to sell you all of that media in return for their 30% cut. sadly, with world politics as they are, i'm not sure that trade and copyright agreements will open up/expand any time soon.
but you make a great point that one of the things that makes the iOS platform great is what's available for it.
