The title says it all. Gmail for iOS, which was launched in a hurry and stripped in the same manner due to bugs, has returned from the grave. There are no noticeable design or spec changes except this time the app works; notifications can now notify you. Of course, there isn’t much more to say on the matter. Knowing this, Google released this statement:
In the short time the app was public we received a lot of helpful feedback and feature requests. This included requests for everything from bigger features like multiple account support to customizations like improved notifications and mobile specific signatures. We’re just getting started with the Gmail app for iOS and will be iterating rapidly to bring you more features, including all the ones listed above plus many more.
In other words, they know that the app doesn’t do much more than Gmail does in mobile Safari. However, they want you to stay, by promising future updates. Personally, I won’t download the app until I see these “additional features.” How about you? Oh, and do you find it strange that Apple allowed a buggy Google app into the App Store? Maybe I’m just picking at things.
