Indian iPhone plans are expensive, but competition is fierce
November 25, 2011
As an American, I’m used to getting most everything in the consumer electronic field first and relatively cheap. Seeing other countries (even you, Canada) deal with inferior versions of the same product for a steep price really bums me out. Despite some pretty nutty pricing announced a few days ago from the Indian telco Aircel, it looks like more affordable plans are already being announced by the competing GSM carrier Airtel.

Aircel Plan

Airtel Plan
I’m not an expert in Indian telcos, but the fact that it will cost roughly $850 USD just to get the phone itself in India seems pretty crazy. At least there is already a pricing war going on as the telcos vie for your hard earned rupees.
Given that you are going to be spending upwards of [INR] 44,000 to grab an iPhone 4S in India, we think it’s only fair that carriers offer such tariff plans to help you make the most of it without burning a hole in your pockets.
Reading about the ordeal some other countries have to go through for their phones makes me hate American telcos slightly less. It does, however, make bring up an interesting change in the way that phones are being sold and marketed. Traditionally, the service was what you really wanted, and the phone was more or less an afterthought. More and more, the service is just a commodity, and it’s the phone itself that people care about. I’m pretty sure that scares the telcos shitless. Frankly, I think I like it.

Samsung wants “fair” ruling for ripping off Apple designs
November 25, 2011
The multi-country battle between Apple and Samsung continues today, but this time it’s Samsung squeaking out a small victory. Australian Federal Court Justice Lindsay Foster feels that the original injunction to ban the Galaxy tablets in Australia were unfair.
From Bloomberg:
“The result looks terribly fair to Apple and not terribly fair to Samsung,” Federal Court Justice Lindsay Foster said today at a hearing in Sydney on Samsung’s appeal for the ban to be overturned.
Samsung claims that the original injunction failed to consider the “dire consequences” of the ban on Samsung, and how that affects the company because now they’re completely shut out from the market, according to Bloomberg. (more…)

Christmas is just around the corner and this shot has got me feeling festive. I love their little faces and iPod Sock hats. Mock the socks if you want to, but they are an easy way to protect your gear inside your bag. Thank you Sam for uploading your adorable photo to our Macgasm Flickr Pool.

Gameloft gives a sneak look at Six Guns
November 24, 2011
Gameloft has posted an interview on their blog with the producer (who they don’t name for some reason, but we know the interviewer’s name is Callum) of their upcoming Wild-West-meets-vampires-werewolves-and-witches, Six Guns.
Is the iPhone 4S good enough to be your only camera?
November 24, 2011
Ever since someone bolted a camera to a mobile phone, the obvious question — sometimes asked, sometimes not — has always been: When can my phone replace my “real” camera? The arrival of the iPhone 4S has brought this question back with more poignancy than ever as the on-board camera is, for now, the best cameraphone the market has ever seen.
Samsung’s new ad mocks iPhone users. Rather well, too.
November 24, 2011
If you watch Samsung’s new TV commercial that mocks those dillweeds who stand in line for 72 hours waiting for a new iPhone and you don’t chuckle, you might wanna loosen up a bit. Cause it’s pretty funny.
Black Friday sales from Apple already live internationally, online
November 24, 2011
As the clock changes from Thursday to Friday around the world, Apple will begin to roll out their Black Friday deals. The sales have already started in countries like Austrailia. There’s nothing too crazy going on with the discounts this year, and prices seem to be right on par with previous year’s discounts from Apple.
If you’re in the market for a new device, you can save a couple bucks here and there, but don’t expect huge savings at your favorite Apple stores. It’s not the Apple way.
Here are some of the official price drops:
- iPad 2 : $41 to $61 Off
- iPod nano – $11 off
- iPod touch – $21 to $41 off
- MacBook Air – $101 off
- MacBook Pro – $101 off
- iMac – $101 off
You can often find better deals on Amazon. We recommend checking prices out there before heading to your favourite Apple retail spots. You can also often find better deals at smaller chains and third party resellers this time of year, so you may want to keep them in mind as well.
