MindNode decides to go Mac App Store only, 50% off
Another day, another developer deciding to fully embrace the Mac App Store and leave behind their own payment portals. MindNode, the popular mind mapping software bundle for the Mac, will now only be available on the Mac App Store.

The reason? iCloud support.

Until now, I’ve been able to provide the same features in copies of MindNode Pro purchased from the Mac App Store and from the MindNode web store (hosted by Kagi), which has made it relatively easy to keep selling both on an even footing. However, an upcoming release of MindNode Pro will add a Mac App Store-only feature: iCloud support.

While the MindNode team will still be offering MindNode Pro 1.x updates through the normal channels, major app updates will only occur on the Mac App Store. To encourage users to purchase the app on the Mac App Store, MindNode is offering the app for a 50% discount until Nov. 11, 2011.

Another app down, and plenty more to go before I can fully rely on the Mac App Store for my updates. I’ll be a happy man once that happens. It’s just an easier experience to manage.

We're testing out a new service called Spread.Us. Help us share our stories!
