The evolution of the iPhone camera

The iPhone 4S has an amazing camera. We’re all aware of that. But what we seem to forget is just how far the camera in the iPhone has come since the very first iPhone. Lisa Bettany has posted an interesting side-by-side comparison of all of the iPhone cameras released to date.
It’s a pretty nice roundup, and we would recommend checking out her full article over on the Camera+ blog to see full versions of the photographs so you can make your own conclusions.
Are you a photog? We’d love to hear your thoughts on the iPhone 4S in our comments. Consider it research for a future article

About Joshua Schnell
It started as a hobby and turned into a full-time job for Josh. One minute he was keeping notes on his switch to the Mac and the next thing he knew he was the full time Editor-In-Chief for Macgasm. He spent his early years designing and developing Web sites, but now it's all writing, all the time. Josh also currently contributes to PCWorld.
He produces two podcasts, The Macgasm Podcast, and The AppOrchard, and can be heard on CBC Radio once every couple of years, despite secretly wishing that was a more frequent gig.

I'm a professional nature and adventure photographer. I've been using the iPhone camera for scouting purposes for over 2 years, starting w/ the 3GS and more recently with the 4S. There is no comparison between the two. In fact, the 4S camera continues to impress me. The detail and resolution it captures is amazing. I'm very impressed with the HDR mode, which does an exceptional job of blending exposures to create a very natural looking image with extended dynamic range without tell-tale signs like halos or low contrast. I've no doubt 8"x10" prints could be made with great results.
