The surge of iOS 5-ready software is most certainly upon us, as evidenced by the arrival of Airport Utility for iPhones, iPads and iPod touches. Airport Utility is a tenured program that lets the user configure and manage Airport base stations, and has been available on Macs for many years. During the iOS 5 beta stage, reports came in about its planned appearance on the App Store… and it looks like it’s finally available. The iOS version of Airport Utility will feel different, of course, as it’s controlled by gestures and swipes instead of mouse clicks, but it still serves the same purpose.
The update is just one of many steps that Apple is taking today to prepare for one of the biggest product bumps they’ve orchestrated in years. This week will not only see the release of the new iPhone 4S, but will also offer an iOS update (to iOS 5) that’s due to drop today, along with a bump to OS X Lion that will bring it to 10.7.2. As if that weren’t enough, Apple’s iCloud service is also due to open today as well.
I hope you’ve got Software Update on a shortcut and your iOS device plugged into your Mac… not to mention your Internet bill all paid up. It’s gonna be a big day.
