ipad newspaper Apple donates first gen iPads to teachers in poor schools

New technology is constantly changing, but when new-new technology out paces the old-new technology, we’re left wondering what happens to the older devices on the market. Sometimes those devices are destined for resale in refurb programs, sometimes they’re sold at extremely cheap prices, and sometimes they’re donated to people who could use them, and that’s just what Apple has done with the orignal iPad.

Apple has sent more than 9,000 iPads to teachers in 38 states as a part of their outreach to the Teach for America program. The program encourages recent graduates to teach at some of the most impoverished and dangerous schools in America. The often underprivileged kids who are often bereft of the latest in-class technologies are left behind and ill-prepared for life in the digital world.

UNREAL3 Unreal 3 engine SDK coming for Mac developers

Gaming fans should be pleased to hear that Epic’s Unreal 3 Engine SDK is making its way into the hands of Mac developers. The Unreal 3 Engine already exists both on OS X and iOS, and we’ve been enjoying games built upon its technology. It wasn’t until the latest version of the Unreal SDK (the stuff developers use to make Unreal 3 games) that Mac support was included, and Epic says that all games built with the Unreal 3 tech can run natively on the Mac.

fcpxupdate Major Final Cut Pro X update released, Pro possibly now justified
When Apple announced Final Cut Pro X, the world was on edge. Users couldn’t wait to get their hands on it and all of the teaser trailers for it looked amazing. Sadly though, the actual release was seen as a disappointment and droves of users demanded refunds.

Apple has taken a step back in recent weeks, offering FCP7 back up for sale to appease the professional crowd that was so unhappy. There is no data on how many refunds were actually requested and supplied, but the press had a field day and I’m sure the number is astronomical.

4K Video Slide Intels next chipset to support 4K resolution, could mean Retina display for MacsIntel announced last week at its Intel Developer Conference in San Francisco that its next generation chipset, dubbed “Ivy Bridge,” will support graphics resolutions of up to 4096 x 4096 on a single monitor. If that sounds incredibly high, it’s because it is. What currently is the standard for ‘high-definition’ tops out at 1920 x 1080, the resolution that is delivered via Blu-Ray discs and video game consoles like the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Known as 4K resolution, 4096 pixel wide displays are the next plateau for high definition. Already cameras such as the Red ONE are capable of shooting 4K video, even though relatively few can view or display this resolution natively.
