During a recent Q&A call with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, he explained that he’d welcome Metro-compatible apps from competitors such as Apple and Amazon, saying “they may have a device competitor, but they have certainly behaved like their fundamental business is the service.”

Microsoft’s Metro says “no” to Flash
September 16, 2011
I can’t decide whether I’m surprised or not: Microsoft has announced that Metro, their front-end for the upcoming Windows 8, will not support plug-ins for Internet Explorer. The announcement appears to echo Apple’s lead where Flash is concerned, as Apple doesn’t allow Flash to run on iOS devices. Adobe’s Flash technology, the prime duty of which is to serve rich multimedia over the web, has been criticized in recent years for being buggy, system-heavy, insecure and proprietary. Instead, many modern-day developers and designers advocate the still-growing HTML5 as a potential replacement. With Flash not running on Apple or Microsoft mobile operating systems, it’s not unreasonable to wonder if this will be the end of Flash on the web in general.
LilyPad lets you charge your iPad and more with the sun’s rays
September 16, 2011
Kickstarter has been the womb of many great ideas, and what David Foster is doing with the LilyPad is nothing short of amazing. The LilyPad is an iPad case with a built in solar array to keep you juiced using the endless supply of solar rays beaming down on us from space.
David’s attention to detail in getting this product right is apparent from every angle. He has bundled in features such as a USB port to charge any other gadget you may be toting along with you. Personally I think every charger case should include one of these as you can always use a 5v usb port!
Looks like iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 rumors are still on the menu
September 16, 2011
Shipping one new iPhone this year is a prett Captain Obvious thing to claim, but shipping two? That’s something that we’ve never seen before, and it’s also something we haven’t stopped hearing about in the rumor mill for months. For the first time in its history, the iPhone could have two new devices coming to the market.
Today we get the next chapter in the iPhone 5 / iPhone 4S novella. According to 9to5Mac team the iPhone 5 is — wait for it — delayed. Reports have the new iPhone 5 being quite a sight to behold; however, there may be some production delays on one of the assembly lines holding up an announcement.
Have multiple Apple IDs? Apple may be working on letting you merge them
September 16, 2011
Apple IDs are the backbone of Apple’s entire online strategy. If you’ve ever purchased an app, a song, or even MobileMe, you’ve set one up at some point. Any sane person would try desperately to only use one Apple ID, which is tied to an email account, but some haven’t been that diligent, and instead have managed to create multiple Apple IDs. In some cases, Apple has even added to the problem, including when they gave .Mac users new me.com accounts.
Ex-Samsung manager leaked iPad shipment estimates to hedge fund manager
September 15, 2011
Insider information. You want to profit from Apple’s stock, and are willing to do anything to get there? Forget #blamelion. Insider trading is how the big boys play. That is, until they get caught.
According to Bloomberg, Suk-Joo Hwang, a 14-year veteran at Samsung’s U.S. division, testified in court this week that he leaked confidential shipment estimates for the as yet unnamed Apple iPad in December of 2009 to James Fleishman and a hedge fund manager during a lunch in Mountain View, California. Fleishman is charged along with several others in connection with an insider trading scheme in which employees at various companies gave confidential information to fund managers who were clients of Primary Global Research, an expert network firm.
Skype for Mac Beta drops with Facebook integration, leaves out video?
September 15, 2011
Skype, Skype, Skype… We need to have a chat. Apparently you are under the impression that people want Facebook integration, and you may be right. What you fail to realize though, is that the most important part of said integration is to actually let us use what your service was intended to do.
