Top Macgasmic posts of the week: September 12th Edition

September 18, 2011

As we pass by the week of September 12th you guys have the iPhone on your mind, well duh. Seriously, do I even need to type this any longer? Even with all the iPhone excitement our top spot goes to Corey Tamas with his news that Portal is free until September 20th. Our 2nd most popular post from Josh Schnell, is somewhat odd as people don’t normally get terribly excited over EFI updates, but this one sparked some controversy and a lot of great debate. Finally in 3rd was an iPhone rumor from Josh Wright of an oddly shaped screen protector speculated to be for the iPhone 5 (seriously, I could make something that looks more real than that). 4th up was a release date rumor from Thomas Towner, and at this point these are the ONLY iPhone 5 rumors I want to hear. Last up is one of my favorite iPhone posts ever from Josh Wright, with a hack that puts a glowing Apple on the back of your iPhone 4, so freaking cool. Have a great rest of your weekend and thanks for all the comments, tweets and feedback this week.

Macgasm weekly rewind: September 12th Edition

September 17, 2011

The Macgasm weekly rewind focuses on our original content and reviews that you may have missed the week starting September 12th.

Hello friends. How are you all doing? We had some really great posts this week, including some that sparked a bit of controversy and blew up our comments section. To be honest, I love it when that happens. You get all this passion from both sides of the subject at hand, and in the end I think it gives the readers quite a bit to think about. If you want to get caught up with what I’m talking about, check out Josh’s post on the MacBook Air EFI update, then go onto Corey T’s “Lion, Link Baiting..” post. Don’t let all the Lion controversy get to you though, as we had some great reviews this week too. Susan found a great app for our teacher friends (please note that I was present in her class and on time). Marco took a moment away from his Angry Bird’s obsession to review Jetpack Joyride. Jen reviews Rdio for iOS and OS X. Have you subscribed to our podcast feed yet? Josh covers some tech startups in his hometown ‘hood in Ottawa in this week’s video podcast. Corey C. finds Lion’s Wi-Fi diagnostic tool and brings us the joyous news that Google Chrome supports Lion’s full screen mode now. Lastly, I feature a reader’s photography in my Flickr Find Friday post. As always, thanks for reading and keeping the comments fun!

Flickr Find Friday: Trackpad “Dancers”

September 16, 2011

All this Lion talk here at Macgasm this week had me thinking about some of the things I really like about it, the gestures. While some may complain about “backwards” scrolling and other gestures, I have fully embraced them and love it (she types while ducking and waiting for the screaming mobs). Like them or hate them, I think they are here to stay. Salavat Khanov, thank you for taking the time to document your gesturing and for uploading it to the Macgasm Flickr Pool!

Do you want to be a photographer or just play one on the web? Here’s your chance! Join Macgasm’s Flickr group and upload all your beauty shots of your Apple gear. Tune in on Fridays (like you ever miss a post, right?) and see if you have what it takes to be featured. Good luck and happy snapping.

Google updates Chrome with Lion full-screen support

September 16, 2011

FINALLY. Google Chrome stable branch gets a very welcome update today — native support for Lion’s full-screen mode, as well as the awesome disappearing scrollbars that everyone hates loves! I’m pretty happy about it, considering this comes after an interesting discussion with the Chrome dev team about whether or not all this was necessary.

Shadowgun on the way to iOS

September 16, 2011

If you think your iPhone or iPad needs more Gears of War, then pay attention this September 28 when Madfinger brings Shadowgun to the App Store. As bounty hunter John Slade, you pick up your sidearm and forage forth into a guarded mountain fortress to take out Doctor Edgar Simon. As you can guess, it won’t be easy; like every good medical professional, he is surrounded by angry mutants, violent cyborgs and other nasty, heavily-armed guards of different types.
