With the next iPad already being rumored for release this calendar year, it would make sense that Apple is out pounding the pavement, looking for suppliers for their next-generation device. According to a report out of Taipei, Novatek Microelectronics, Richtek Technoloy, Capella Microsystems, and Integrated Memory Logic have all signed on to supply parts for the iPad 3.

Apple releases revised Snow Leopard 10.6.8 update
July 25, 2011
Just because OS X Lion is out, it doesn’t mean Snow Leopard has been kicked to the curb. While the OS should continue to receive security updates for the lifespan of Lion, today Apple released a revised 10.6.8 update. The update includes these fixes:
- Transferring personal data, settings, and compatible applications from a Mac running Mac OS X Snow Leopard to a new Mac running Mac OS X Lion
- Certain network printers that pause print jobs immediately and fail to complete
- System audio that stops working when using HDMI or optical audio out
Lion: Time Machine now forces you to restore your entire iPhoto Library
July 25, 2011
I received a text message the other day from a friend of mine asking me what I thought about Lion. In summary I told him that while there are a few things I still need to get used to, it is definitely worth the upgrade. He responded that his only reservation was that Lion reportedly had some backup issues with Time Machine. I knew nothing of the sort at the time, and so that is where our little chat ended. I am still not entirely sure what he was referring to, but it could very well have been this:
When using iPhoto 9.1.5 or later and Time Machine with OS X Lion, iPhoto no longer has the Browse Backups option. This means that instead of restoring specific photos within your iPhoto Library, you must restore your entire iPhoto Library when restoring from Time Machine.
According to this Apple Support Document, the way iPhoto backups work in Lion and the new version of iPhoto is quite different than before. You will no longer be able to restore individual pictures, but rather you will have to restore your entire iPhoto library. The steps to do this can be found in the aforementioned support article.
Why is this? I really couldn’t tell you. It does sure seem like a step backwards to me. It kind of reminds me of the time that my family got a new car that did not have headlights that automatically turn on at night. Our five year old car did, but not the new one. Leopard was able to restore individual pictures, but not Lion.

Final Fantasy Tactics finally submitted to Apple for approval
July 25, 2011
Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions has had a troublesome road to launch. Originally slated for June / July (following a mammoth delay in 2010), it was then pushed back to a late July release. Apologies came from assistant producer Shina at Square Enix and the absolute promise that the game would finally hit iOS devices before the month was up.
Well Final Fantasy fans can finally rejoice – Tactics has officially been submitted to Apple for approval.
Apple’s new iPad 2 ad, “We’ll Always,” sneaks in a Lion
July 25, 2011
Hold everything. Apple has a new iPad 2 ad, called “We’ll Always.” The ad is typical Apple, waxing lyrical about how we will still do the things we’ve always done, but now with the iPad, we’ll do them better, differently, or whatever. But that’s not the awesome part.
The awesome part is that at 0:23 of the ad, while the voiceover intones, “and learn new things,” a little boy is shown learning to write the word “lion” on the iPad.
That’s right, “lion.”
AT&T tells its employees that Apple will ship iPhone 5 in September
July 25, 2011
Earlier today we wrote about Apple’s hiring spree leading up to the back-to-school season in an attempt to shore up enough talent to manage the back-to-school blitz that’s surely going to happen as September gets closer and summer draws to a close. We suggested that the call for more retail employees will also likely coincide with the iPhone 5 release. As it turns out, AT&T is also thinking about bolstering their bullpen as iPhone 5 release day starts getting a little bigger on the horizon.
Apple stock breaks on through to the other side, hits $400.00 (APPL)
July 25, 2011
Apple’s stock has climbed past $400.00 per share today for the first time ever. The daily low was at $389.62. The stock then climbed and fell again and now sits at $399.11, an increase today of over 1.48 percent.
Nothing has really happened to get the stocks climbing today, outside of your typical rumors and news from the company. Last week Apple announced stellar results during their earnings call, but at this point, unless everyone’s been asleep at the wheel, it’s unlikely that the quarterly results have anything to do with today’s action.
Can you imagine how rich we’d all be if we bought Apple stock back in 2006 before stocks broke $100.00 per share? Man, talk about missing the boat, or not drinking the Kool-Aid enough.

Looks like Apple is gearing up for the iPhone 5 launch by hiring more staff
July 25, 2011
One of the easiest ways to tell when Apple is about to pull the trigger on a new product is to watch the news wire for information about the Apple Store, and what the company is doing with their employees.
We don’t mean getting rumors from the employees — they generally know squat — but we mean large changes, like overnight shifts, or huge hiring sprees. We’ve seen both of these things happen in the past, most recently it was an overnight shift the day before Lion was released. Today there’s rumors that Apple’s looking to hire a substantial number of new employees between now and September to help with the back-to-school season, a traditional release time for the company, albeit for iPods and not iPhones.
