With just a few clicks, Lion’s new Recovery feature allows you to restore your Mac install without worrying about where you stashed that restore disc that came bundled with your Apple sticker.
Lion Recovery has been revealed, putting to rest some of the confusion of a distribution plan that didn’t involve physical media.
China is well known as a place where you can find almost any kind of counterfeit goods, including copies of the latest Apple devices. Well, it seems that someone has taken that a step further and has faked an entire Apple Store.
Blogger BirdAbroad posted a number of photos on her blog that were taken from an “Apple Store” in Kunming, China. The decor, the furniture layout, everything screams Apple Store. But of course, Apple doesn’t have a store in Kunming. They only have stores in Beijing and Shanghai.
Whoever set up this shop went to great lengths to make it look like a real Apple Store. The employees wear blue T-shirts, with large ID badges hanging from their necks. The stands the iPads are resting on look just like they do in any other Apple Store. There is a winding staircase in the middle of the store, as well as banners and signs on the walls and tables that all look extremely official.
Oops. Square Enix has apologised for the delay to Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions. The news came directly from a bowing Shina, assistant producer at Square Enix, as he said sorry for the eagerly awaited title’s push from June to late July.
You’ve probably never heard of LostWinds, the 2008 adventure WiiWare game from Frontier Games. It’s by the same studio that brought RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 and Elite to the PC. Today news dropped that a direct port is due on iOS later this year.
A small bit of news that we managed to overlook during posting all of that new Mac, Thunderbolt Display, and Lion goodness this morning was that Apple hasn’t completely overlooked those poor souls who can’t afford to download Lion over the Internet and don’t have an Apple Store within an affordable distance.
According to some fine print in Apple’s press release (we were too busy looking for specs), the company plans on releasing Lion on USB sticks in August. The cost of the OS will be slightly more expensive, likely due to the extra cost of the hardware, weighing in at $69.00 instead of the $29.99 price on the App Store.
Since we’re all looking to the future, and trying to best-guess what Lion means for the next couple of years, I thought it might be a little bit of fun to take a look backwards. GizmoWatch managed to dig up some images and video of a steampunk iMac that comes complete with a 114-year-old typewriter keyboard that actually works.
According to the article, the nifty machine shown above is comprised of a 1991 Mac running Mac OS 7.5, a Remington typewriter keyboard, and a telegraph-key mouse, as well as a 56K modem built from scratch.
Video Goodness
Sexy. In fact, it’s probably even sexier than Lion. Just saying.
The Mac mini that we’ve all grown to love over the years has gotten some much needed attention from Apple today. The machine now comes complete with iCore processors, better discrete graphics, Thunderbolt, and Lion built right in.
