Apple releases new MacBook Airs

Apple has released a pretty substantial tech bump to the MacBook Airs today, alongside the release of Lion. The rumors leading up to the release suggested that the new device would gain ThunderBolt, i5 and i7 processors, as well as a backlit keyboard.

The 1.6 GHz 11-inch MacBook Air is available in two models, one with 2GB of memory and 64GB of flash storage for a suggested retail price of $999 (US), and one with 4GB of memory and 128GB of flash storage for $1,199 (US). The 1.7 GHz 13-inch MacBook Air comes in two configurations, one with 4GB of memory and 128GB of flash storage for a suggested retail price of $1,299 (US), and one with 4GB of memory and 256GB of flash storage for $1,599 (US).

If you’ve been holding out for a new MacBook Air, or desperately need an upgrade, now would be the time to pull the trigger. Actually, while you’re at it, pick us up one too.

As always, Apple will be shipping these new machines with Lion already installed. The big sexy cat is out of the bag.
