Test RAM on your Mac without a RAM tester

Have you ever had your Mac not boot properly? Or, maybe you’re not sure if the new memory you bought is on the up and up. Before you would have to test your memory on a RAM tester, or if you’re experiencing issues you would have to take out the new memory and replace it with the original. Well, with Rember you can test your existing RAM and verify if your memory is good, or if it is going bad.

To run Rember you need to be running Mac OS X 10.5 or later. If you are on an earlier version of Mac OS X, you can click here to get those versions. You’ll find them about halfway down the page.

I ran it on my MacBook Pro Quad Core i7 with 4GB of RAM. I configured it to “Quit all applications” and to “Quit Finder”.  This way the test can run without anything else running in the background. I then ran the test with the defaults. The total test took about fifteen minutes to run. Once it was completed, it gave me an easy to read report.

Below are just a few key features that make using Rember a better experience:

  • Easy to use testing console.
  • Human-readable test report summarizes test results.
  • Memory information window displays DIMM status
  • And more…

Rember is an easy to use software that will allow you to test the memory on your Mac.  I would highly recommend that this be added to your arsenal of troubleshooting tools. You can download Rember for free by clicking here.

I'm a husband, dad of two great kids, and I have a passion for Apple products. I got my first Mac in 2005, and I haven't looked back. I like the simplicity of the Mac, and how does the motto go, oh yeah, It just works. I think that's the great thing about Macs how the hardware and software work harmoniously together. I've also been in the IT industry for over fourteen years. I've worked with everything from Windows computers to Mac computers. I can say I thoroughly enjoy working with Macs.
