Apple iPhone 5 may have dual-LED flash

Reports out of Taiwan have indicated that Apple has not only moved away from Philips for their LED flash products, but that they may have also turned to three companies to provide dual-LED flash systems for the iPhone 5 (4S).

According to DigiTimes, Apple has turned to Everlight Electronics, Edison Opto, and Lite-On Technology as potential suppliers for the next iPhone 5 flash.

A number of Android phones, and even the HTC HD2, a Windows mobile phone, already has a dual-LED flash built-in, and early reports indicate that it easily provides a better low-light shooting experience compared to the single LED alternatives.

There have previously been rumors that Apple’s been looking to rework the camera and flash setup for their next mobile device, and while some of the evidence has been a bit hokey, it’s starting to sound like the camera may actually be getting some additional attention this time around.
