A number of U.S. senators publicly asked Apple to remove the D.U.I avoidance applications from the App Store back in March. Apple’s remained fairly silent on the front until this week. Apple updated their developer guidelines shortly after the iOS update at WWDC on Monday, and as a result it seems like all of these D.U.I dodging applications have been banned from the App Store.
In section 22.8, under the legal requirements headline it now reads:
Apps which contain DUI checkpoints that are not published by law enforcement agencies, or encourage and enable drunk driving, will be rejected
It’s no surprise that this ended up happening. It’s pretty pathetic that Apple even had to spell this one out for people. This year alone 10,839 people will die in drunk-driving crashes in the US alone, according to MADD. That’s one for every 50 minutes.
I’m glad Apple yanked these apps. There’s not much else for me to say.

It seemed inevitable anyways. They would either die from a drunk driving accident, or die staring at their phone trying to find a route evading any checkpoints.
