Featured on the Mac App Store a few weeks back, Movie Draft SE is available for a very affordable price and is compatible with Final Draft 8, one of the top screenwriting programs in the industry.
As I discussed in my last article, many big software companies have been slow to market, and then only give you a taste of what you really want. If they’re not careful, smaller developers are going to take hold of the market. This is already happening with screenwriting software. While the film industry perpetually waits for Final Draft to endlessly beta test their “coming soon” (read: “any day now”) iPad app, a crop of young developers have sprung up to fill the void. In another attempt to get attention, the noble internet denizens think they have uncovered a huge controversy with the iPad 2 — antennagate, the iPad 2 edition. Stop me if you’ve heard this record before. When holding the iPad 2 where the antennas are located, signal strength will slightly degrade. Go Figure.
As is common with every modern sporting event nowadays, there’s an accompanying app for fans. The French Open is no exception. Officially titled ‘Roland-Garros 2011 – French Open, ’ the app is available across all iOS devices. This means no matter where you are you’ll have the latest scores at your fingertips.
India-based carrier Airtel will begin selling Apple’s iPhone 4 on May 27, according to a press release. The company will be offering the handset to both pre-paid and post-paid customers starting on Friday.
What’s that? Still stinging from Consumer Reports taking the iPhone 4 off its recommended list? Well, this might make you feel better. Taking the top spots in the 11-inch, 13-inch, 15-inch and 17-inch categories, Apple only failed to come first in the 14-inch category, likely because they don’t make a 14-inch laptop. If they did, they probably would have won that one too.
Consumer Reports laptop rankings require a subscription to access, but the Loop is reporting that Apple’s 11-inch MacBook Air beat Gateway and HP models with a score of 62, while it dominated the 13-inch category taking the top 5 out of 7 available spots. In the 15-inch category, Apple took the top three spots, and in the 17-inch category it took the top two spots.
Back in February Apple told developers that in order to be able to sell subscriptions through the App Store, developers must use Apple’s in-app subscription model by June 30th. Some developers are probably going to wait until the last week of June before submitting their application updates in order to comply with Apple’s rules. There is one company that is not waiting until the last minute to submit their application update: Wired.
“In the PC world, with fewer ways of differentiating HP’s products from our competitors, we became number one; in the tablet world we’re going to become better than number one. We call it number one plus.”
If you’re going to trash talk your competition, you may want to start competing with them first. At least, that’s what common sense should tell you. HP is not the only company that has been guilty of this recently. Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer trash talked the iPhone in 2007 when it was released, claiming that it had no chance whatsoever of gaining any significant market share. It’s kind of hilarious how history has proved him to be absolutely wrong.
Part of Apple’s terms of service for Apple Care is that Apple will not assist users with the removal of malware and viruses. Apple does this for two reasons: the first is perception, and the second is to limit responsibility.
Apple chooses not to allow their support personnel to remove malware and viruses they want to maintain the perception that Macs are not susceptible to infection. Whether the reason for this is better security or market share is up for debate. (more…)
