There’s no denying that President Obama is known for his diplomatic prowess. He’s a man of eloquence, even if you don’t agree with what he says. However, following news that he’s appointed Twitter CEO Dick Costolo to a telecommunications advisory committee, it seems that even he might need a little help.

Top Macgasmic posts of the week: May 23rd Edition
May 29, 2011
I’m sure none of you will be shocked to hear that the iPhone rumors were once again our top hits this week. Stephen reports on Apple inviting journalists to WWDC, which sparks rumors of Apple unveiling the next gen iPhone. Stephen also brought us information on the rumor of iOS 5 containing widgets. On a side note, am I the only one who dislikes the word widgets? Sorry, back to the rumors at hand. Joshua reports on the potential of curved glass in the next iPhone. Justin brings us a post on yet another confident VP touting the next iPad killer — we’ve seen how well the previous companies have fared at this task. Last up we have Eugene who tries to get our hopes up for a June release of the iPhone. Stop that Eugene, you’re just being cruel. Thanks again for reading and participating in the comments this week!

A call for Ballmer to step down from Microsoft, and for new blood to step up
May 29, 2011

Well, this one has been a long time coming. This week David Einhorn stated that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has led Microsoft with what he calls “Charlie Brown management,” failing to make wise market decisions, failing to produce creative products, and weighing down on Microsoft’s stock share prices. Einhorn is the president of Greenlight Capital, a key investment firm in Microsoft stock. The firm is well aware of the positive impact that replacing the company’s floundering CEO would have on stock share prices.
Firefox 6 Alpha 2 released in parallel with Firefox 5 Beta
May 29, 2011
The Firefox team announced that its Aurora channel has been updated to Firefox 6 Alpha. This may seem like odd news, because Firefox 5 Beta was just released last week. This is part of the Firefox team’s new development strategy, which calls for having three major versions in development at any given time.

Here at Macgasm, our team is a well-connected group of people from all over the world. We stay on the same page daily, updating each other throughout the day on the status of posts, upcoming todos and articles, and all sorts of other things. This is all made possible by a great tool called Basecamp, made by the excellent 37Signals. Needless to say, when a Mac-native alternative was announced, we paid attention, curious to see what it had to offer.
Hype aims to change the way animated content is created for the web
May 27, 2011
As some of you may know, when I’m not writing for Macgasm, I’m designing websites for people and companies all over the world. As a web designer, I spend an awful lot of time writing code. I also get to know the technologies used in the development of websites intimately. For years, Adobe Flash has been the dominant way of producing animated interactive content on the Internet. It’s a pain to work with, extremely difficult to learn, very resource intensive, and riddled with security holes and instability issues. Therefore, web designers all over the world have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of a compelling alternative to Flash, built with modern open web standards. Until now, there really hasn’t been an integrated solution capable of producing clean, code-based animations for the modern web.
