OmniOutliner ($19.99) by OmniGroup is a self-standing outlining application for the iPad. Like all of OmniGroup’s apps, OmniOutliner is well-designed, highly customizable, and a pleasure to use. It’s also expensive and has a bit of a learning curve.
When you first open OmniOutliner, you are presented with a document that introduces the main elements of the application in (of course) outline form. Reading through this outline teaches you the basics of how to use the application. Other documents are also provided as examples of the various types of outlines you can produce in OmniOutliner, including a book list, notes, and a budget report.

We’ve all used iSync at one time or another. In the days of oldness and wrinkly bags, we would use iSync to sync contacts and calendars, but now in Lion, Apple has progressively advanced from a separate application to do this bidding and moved to the cloud or rely on iTunes to sync everything to our iPhones, iPods or iPads.

“You copy me, I copy you” seems to be the moniker these days when it comes to tech companies. If the competition has something you don’t, you make sure you have it too, because not having it means you won’t succeed, you won’t make a sale, and more importantly, you won’t be around much longer.
There’s been an ongoing patent dispute between Apple and Samsung over this very kind of behavior. Apple thinks that Samsung has crossed a line with their Droid Charge, Infuse 4G, Galaxy S II, and Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 devices. Apple and Samsung have ended up in court battling it out over whether or not Samsung broke patents and blatantly attempted to create devices in the same vein as the iPad and iPhone.

Back in March, the FAA approved airlines to use the iPad as a replacement to old-fashioned paper flight manuals on US-based airlines.
This weekend, Alaska Airlines announced it will be the first airline to put Apple’s tablet in the cockpit.

This is a guest post by Phillipe Bosher, an 18 year old from the UK who is headed for Oxford University.
At the Games Developers’ Conference 2009, Neil Young, head of ngmoco, held a talk entitled “Why The iPhone Changed Everything.” In it, he spoke of how the iPhone revolutionised not only the handheld gaming market, but also the way people played video games forever. Some were convinced by his impassioned speech; others felt that it was purely the ramblings of a man trying to succeed in a tough market.
Recently, I was able to meet with Joe Wee and Chris Byatte, both Directors at Chillingo, Carmen Pearson, Global Head of PR and Communications at Chillingo, and David Amor, Creative Director at Relentless Software. Over the course of two interviews, I asked them about the iPhone, the way they approached development/publishing on the iOS platform, and whether they agreed with Young’s 2008 talk that the iPhone changed everything.

Foodish by Alexander Repty is an app designed to track all the meals, snacks and drinks you eat throughout the day, and it helps you do it with a great laid-back approach.
Gone are the days of counting the calories and weighing each small piece of chocolate. Foodish is very easy to use — you can enter the details quickly and get back to the important things, like eating your meal.

Over the weekend, Apple seeded the Snow Leopard 10.6.8 update to developers, and in that seed there is a mention that the next Snow Leopard patch will be bringing enhancements to the Mac App Store “to get your Mac ready to upgrade to Mac OS X Lion.”

There is a rumor swirling about that Apple may announce their Back to School specials at this year’s World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC). WWDC is slated to run from June 6th through June 10th at Moscone West in San Francisco.
As far as my research shows, Apple has been doing their Back to School promotions since 2003, at least according to an article on iLounge from May 30th, 2003. So this announcement would not be unexpected since it now the end of the school year, and immediately following that is the “Back to School” season. This year is no different. (more…)
