Today, Apple has released an update to its mobile iWork applications, scaling them for the iPhone and iPod touch.

Pages, Keynote and Numbers are all $9.99 per app. iPad iWork owners get the smaller versions for free, as with this update, the apps are now universal.

“Now you can use Keynote, Pages and Numbers on iPhone and iPod touch to create amazing presentations, documents and spreadsheets right in the palm of your hand,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing in the company’s press release. “The incredible Retina display, revolutionary Multi-Touch interface and our powerful software make it easy to create, edit, organize and share all of your documents from iPhone 4 or iPod touch.”

With the launch of the original iPad, Apple pushed iWork as a productivity solution for its tablet. Hopefully Apple will have a better cloud -based file management system for iOS in the near future, making these apps even better.

Good news for those with a poor sense of direction and bad news for those that blame Maps for their lateness. Maps+ is a new iOS app that brings some much needed functionality to the standard application that so many of us rely on.

Developed by IZE, it’s a completely free way of ensuring that you never get lost again. It boasts the usual interface enhancements, new features, and as ever, social sharing. It basically looks to recreate the whole online Google Maps experience, but shrunk down for your iOS device.

Apple announces MacBook bottom case replacement program

May 31, 2011

Those white MacBooks have always been a bit of a pain for Apple, despite being one of their best sellers. I know numerous people who have problems with plastic cracking on the previous generation MacBook. They always seem to be going in for repairs. And now the unibody MacBook seems to be having some problems of its own. The rubber padding on the bottom of the device seems to be pulling away from the computer, and separating in a way that was obviously not intended when it shipped.

Apple has determined that under certain circumstances the rubber surface on some MacBooks may separate from the bottom case of the system. MacBooks shipped between October 2009 and April 2011 may experience this issue.

If you find yourself in a similar situation, you can now take your Macbook into the Apple Store and they’ll replace it for you, free of charge. Or, should you feel handy enough to fix it yourself, you can order a replacement kit online. Either way, you have some options now.

A possible MacBook Air refresh has supplies constrained

May 31, 2011

Early on Friday we got word that Apple is testing out A5-powered MacBook Airs, but those machines still seem to be a little ways off. Sandy Bridge based MacBook Airs have been rumored to be shipping sometime in June or July of this summer for a while now.

Our friends over at 9to5 Mac have heard from their sources around the globe that MacBook Air supplies have become constrained. They also point out that Best Buy has dropped the price of the latest MacBook Air to $938.99.

All around it looks like a slash and grab program is underway. Refurbished MacBook Airs have also seen diminished prices as Apple cuts prices on their online Apple Store. It’s looking pretty realistic that the new model of the MacBook Air is on its way to stores sooner rather than later.

It’s official, iCloud, iOS 5, and Lion announcements coming at WWDC

May 31, 2011

You can put down your speculation cap for a couple of seconds. Apple just sent out a press release indicating that the company will show off Lion, iOS 5, and iCloud on Monday, June 6th, at WWDC 11. Steve Jobs and other executives will take the stage to show off the newfangled services to the world.

This news puts to rest some of the rumors that iOS 5 wouldn’t be announced until September, alongside the rumored iPhone 5 (4s).

For those who haven’t been following the iCloud rumors, it has been said that Apple’s about to release a major refresh for MobileMe. Some parts of the upgrade could be free (email, calendar, etc), while others may carry a price tag, much like MobileMe currently does. There have been rumors that iCloud would include a media locker that would let users stream their media across the cloud to any device that can access iCloud. Again, these are just a couple of rumors, but we’ll be sure to know for sure come next Monday once WWDC kicks off.

Buy Buy Buy! That’s the message coming out of US analyst house Piper Jaffray. Gene Munster, a Wall Street analyst at the firm, is adamant that now is the perfect time to be buying Apple stock. The reason why? Growth.

Munster is sure that Apple’s recent growth rate is sustainable and despite recent shaky trading following Steve Job’s leave of absence, there’s enough stability at AAPL to maintain market advances.

Google iOS mobile search page about to get a revamp?

May 30, 2011

If you go to google.com using Safari on your iPhone, chances are you’ll see what you’ve always seen. A replica of the classic Google search page, with a large text entry box in the center, and various headers along the top for Images, Places, News, and more. Some lucky users are seeing something different, however.

According to phoneArena.com, screenshots they obtained show a revamped user interface for the mobile Google search page. Large icons are added to the headers along the top, as well as to each item in the ‘more’ dropdown page. The dropdown is also organized into tabs for organization, one for search and one for apps.
