Get ready, OS X Lion will be on the Mac App Store

Over the weekend, Apple seeded the Snow Leopard 10.6.8 update to developers, and in that seed there is a mention that the next Snow Leopard patch will be bringing enhancements to the Mac App Store “to get your Mac ready to upgrade to Mac OS X Lion.”

It’s starting to look like the rumor that Lion will be distributed through the Mac App Store may actually have some clout behind it. There have been some concerns from IT professionals about delivering the update through the Mac App Store. At this point there’s no evidence that Apple will be offering up the update without a physical medium (DVD, Thumb Drive) option. It may be a rarity, but there are some situations where a Mac won’t have access to the internet.

For now, we’re going to have to sit and wait. WWDC isn’t that far away now (June 6-10), so we should know one way or the other very soon.
