There’s no denying that President Obama is known for his diplomatic prowess. He’s a man of eloquence, even if you don’t agree with what he says. However, following news that he’s appointed Twitter CEO Dick Costolo to a telecommunications advisory committee, it seems that even he might need a little help.
OK. In reality the news has nothing to do with 140 character communication. Instead it’s the news that the President is planning to utilise Costolo’s expertise in telecommunications by appointing him to the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC). This is presumably because of the skills he’s demonstrated as Twitter’s Chief Operating Officer.
However, what is surprising is the fact that Costolo only took over from Twitter co-founder Evan Williams in October of last year. It’ll be interesting to see how he juggles his commitments and whether Twitter makes any changes of its own.
In typical rhetorical fashion, Obama said:
“I am proud to appoint such impressive men and women to these important roles, and I am grateful they have agreed to lend their considerable talents to this Administration. I look forward to working with them in the months and years ahead.”
So it’s the usual pomp and circumstance we’ve come to expect from the President of the United States. Still it is proof that Obama isn’t afraid to bolster the 25 year old NSTAC committee with fresh-thinking and new blood.
Costolo will also be joined by Corporate Vice President of Microsoft’s Trustworthy Computing Group, Scott Charney, and David DeWalt, the president of security company McAfee.
