Court grants Apple access to the Samsung vault

Samsung Vs Apple

A federal court battle that broke out over claims that Samsung copied patented Apple designs for their Android line of products has heated up this week as a judge has ruled Samsung must hand over soon to be released prototypes.

Samsung initially claimed these to be secret models, but Apple was quick to point out several press releases announcing the products in question, as well as note that 5,000 Galaxy Tab 5.1s were handed out at the recent Google I/O Developer Conference. With this evidence in hand, speedy discovery was granted.

With the devices handed over as evidence, Apple hopes to build the case that by protecting their patents and the iconic iPhone style, they are helping ease confusion amongst consumers that aren’t familiar with the differences between the brands.

Samsung now has less than 30 days to hand over full product samples including packaging to the Galaxy S2, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Infuse 4G, and 4G LTE and the Droid Charge.

I find this case intriguing as smartphone designs have been on a path to convergence for quite some time. Personally, I’d like to see something shake it up to get people thinking outside of the box again.
